Jake Plummer is the Still the Guy
Heath Shuler, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Kelly Stauffer, Andre Ware, David Klingler, Rick Mirer. Ouch. Every name on that list is a QB who was drafted higher than Jay Cutler. And that’s about the only notable thing any of them did in the NFL.
I’m seeing Broncos fans placing a lot of hope in Cutler. I am too. I hope he has a great NFL career and lives up to all the potential that Shanahan and the scouts see in him. But he’s not the savior of the franchise. He’s a raw, young QB with great ability — nd the same thing could have been said for every name in that list above. Let’s cool down on Jay for a bit and let him develop. Don’t buy his jersey yet. Don’t make a big deal if he throws an INT in practice. Time will tell if he deserves to be compared to Elway or Maddox.
At this moment, Jake Plummer is still the guy. Sure it’ll be good for him to feel the pressure of Jay Cutler standing on the sidelines, but right now, Jake Plummer is by far the best option at QB if the Broncos want to win football games. Jake, you aren’t forgotten here, and I’m still rooting for you. Jay will hopefully have his time, but this is still yours.

I don’t care if Jay was the #1 pick, #11 pick, or a 6th rounder. All I know is the guy has all the tools, heart, smarts, and toughness necessary to be a GREAT QB in this league. Once he gets rolling there will be no question that he will be our franchise QB and will quickly make us forget about the Griese/Plummer days. Make no mistake about it Cutler will be the type of QB that will be able to carry a team with his right arm.

Scar,
I hope you’re right! I’d love to see a long-term franchise type QB in orange and blue, but it’s going to take some time…I just hope the Denver fans and media can be patient.

The drafting of Jay Cutler will be what lights a fire under Jake Plummer. He has never had his job status questioned beofre. His career has always been secure - until now.

Jake Plummer still has the starting job for now, but if the Broncos don’t make the playoffs this year, look for Cutler to be more involved int he starting battle during next year’s preseason. My bet is he’ll get the job. Number 6 is the future not number 16.

I feel like Jake will be able to build on a great season from last year. He had his best regular season as a Bronco, and his INT’s were way, way down. I’m feeling good about Plummer and the team this year! Next season will most likely be too early for Cutler, unless he gets some playing time due to a Plummer injury. I look for Cutler to be the man in orange-and-blue in three seasons.

Jake will the starting position if all goes well. NO interceptions,no fumbles, etc. So far Jake is showing me he may be second QB. When he is HOT he is HOT, but when he is off he is really really off. The Defense is good but can’t play the majority of all 4 quarters and still expected to care the team. Come on Mike lets get the offense going, if means benching Jake lets do it. MAybe then he will really work on his weak points!!!!! Wake Jake your slithering away!!!

My family and I live in Kentucky and we have been Bronco fans since birth. I just wanted to say that we think Jake is still the man to be our starting quarterback. I sincerely hope that Cutler has a wonderful career, but for the rest of this season and possibly next season he should remain on the sideline learning.Remember what happened when John Elway was put in before he was ready. It wasn’t a pretty sight. All these fans who are yelling for Cutler to be put in need to chill out. His turn will come, but for now we should be backing Jake. Can you even begin to imagine how he feels when all we’ve heard since Cutler was drafted is that Jake needs to be taken out and Cutler needs to be our starter. The pressure has to be tremendous. People seem to forget the number of games Jake has won for us. I hope Jake forgets all this nonsense and just goes out and plays the kind of game he is capable of playing. All of us here in Kentucky are rooting for him!

Listen, all Cutler ever did was play well in HIGH SCHOOL! He wasn’t even that good in college, his senior year, Vanderbilt went 5-6! We don’t need that, we need to SAVE THE SNAKE!

Let’s not forget that we lost the Offensive Cord. That was a big loss. It was a clicking team last year. Do u remember how bad our 2nd darry was. We could not stop the pass to save our lives, but still Plummer did everything he could to get the ball in the end-zone. Thus AFC Champs. Plummer does have alot to work on, but he is only one man on the team, there is plenty of blame to go around. Let’s stat with the coach, that’s right Shannahan himself. He is not allowing Jake to be great. He puts him in positions which he does not have positive outcomes. For ex: Jake does best when he can roll out of the damn pocket. Shannahan never ran a play last week against the Chargers that let him do that. The end-around, a great play that Broncos run well; where was it, thats right nowhere to be found in the game. You don’t run on 3rd and 4 when you absolutly need the damn fist down. Our running game has improved, especially recently; however you need to have more recievers than Walker. How about that D-fense. They are supposed to be soooooooooooooooooooooo good, but if you wait till the RED-ZONE to get it going the other team will come away with points reguardless. Broncos need to stop, including the stupid fans, need to stop pointing fingers and just go out there and play the best they know they can. That includes capitalizing on strengths, running plays that Plummer does really really well. Set him up to suceed instead of waiting for him to fail. D-fense start tackling better, much better.Get back to the fundamentals. Everyone.
