BroncosFreak.com is Down
Yes, it is true, and yet more than a few bewildered refugees have found their way here.
Harkov, who graciously hosts the site, has been traveling, so he’s not fully available to get to the server. In the brief contact I’ve had with him, he thought that the site is going through a DNS change, which means we all just have to wait for the changes to sort their way out to our ISP’s. I’ve had sporadic access to the site today, and all the data is still there, so don’t panic…at least any more than you already have.
While you are waiting for the site to return, you can visit or subscribe to the FreakFeed to catch up on all the latest Broncos news. If you are feeling especially opinionated and eloquent, you can alwayspost an entry here on the blog to satisfy the horrific emptiness that your fellow freaks are experiencing.
Although some of you already have done so in the comments elsewhere, feel free to share your agony in the comments to this entry.

“Panic, horrific emptiness, agony”…
Why are you downplaying this?! LOL!
On January 3rd, 2006 at 7:25 pm
You forgot “bewildered refugees”
On January 3rd, 2006 at 8:12 pm
Seems like the Freak goes through DNS changes often.
Takes longer for the DNS to propogate out west… any chance we just get the straight IP address?
On January 3rd, 2006 at 8:27 pm
I’m starting to feel like I’m banned again. I knew you Mods would find a way to keep me from posting again…..HaHa!!!! It won’t work!!!!!
On January 3rd, 2006 at 11:21 pm
Dave,
If I can get a hold of it, I’ll post it.
On January 4th, 2006 at 3:59 am
Thank God we have a bye week to fix this.
On January 4th, 2006 at 6:29 am
for those of you having problems accessing the site, feel free to try the following: (I had posted this up on the freak for people to forward onto others)
To explain, the DNS server (the little guy that turns a name, http://www.broncosfreak.com, into an address 67.19.100.82) was changed, and it usually takes 24 hours to make a change, but can take anywhere from that to two weeks to propagate across the internet. I made this change around 12/25/05. But on 1/1/06 the ‘old’ address (69.56.205.142) went away, which is probably causing some problems for people with out of date dns servers.
The ’solution’ is either ‘wait’ or if you’re anxious, you can add a record to your machine’s ‘host’ file. Feel free to forward this on to anyone who you know cannot access the site.
In windows, click ’start’, then ‘run’
type notepad, click ok
click file->open
navigate to:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ (replace windows with wherever your windows installation is, ie win32/winnt/etc)
change the ‘files of type’ dropdown to all files
double-click on ‘hosts’
you should see something like:
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
add a line at the bottom as follows:
67.19.100.82 http://www.broncosfreak.com
click file->save
click flie->exit
open your browser, and goto the freak, http://www.broncosfreak.com
unfortunately, you cannot simply goto the straight ip address, as a bunch of things in the site rely on the domain name (images/etc).

Harkov:
Any hope for Mac users to get back to the freak page?
Thanks. Appreciate all your work on the BF homepage.
On January 4th, 2006 at 12:06 pm
Thanks, Harkov. That worked!
On January 4th, 2006 at 12:56 pm
Thanks, Harkov!
I’m back on. Wow, you guys who still can’t get on are missing out big time. There’s free cookies and punch and clowns. Ah man it’s great! Ok gotta get back…there’s going to balloons and cake next.
On January 4th, 2006 at 2:15 pm
balloons and cake…how about strippers?? talk to you all soon, hopefully!

mclark (and any other Mac Users out there) -
This assumes you have Mac OS X.
The file that you need to edit is the /etc/hosts file.
You’ll notice that you can’t find this on your hard drive very easily. That’s because the “etc” directory is hidden by default.
So you don’t need to worry about that. You bought a Mac after all! Things should be easy, right?
Find the application NetInfo Manager. (It’s in Applications/Utilities/)
Open that.
Under the “Security” menu, choose “Authenticate.” This is where you put in your password. (You can’t do this if you aren’t the admin user on your Mac.)
In the little three column window, find the directory “machines” - click on it to highlight it. When you do it will have two entries: localhost and broadcasthost.
We are going to create another one. Under the “Directories” menu, choose “New Subdirectory.” This will put an item called new_subdirectory in with “localhost” and “broadcasthost.”
Click on new_subdirectory and you’ll see down below where it has a property called “name” and it’s value is “new_subdirectory.” Double click on the value and change it to “www.broncosfreak.com”
Now, go to the “Directory” menu again, and choose “New Value.” You’ll see that a new value is created. Change it’s “property” column to “ip_address” and it’s value to “67.19.100.82″
Now, you have your file done. Quit out - it’ll ask you if you want to save. Say yes. Now open Safari or Firefox and go to http://www.broncosfreak.com - and you are set.

Dave:
I appreciate the help. I’m not the net administrator at my job so I don’t get the security option.
My home computer is a system 9. Any way to fix that one on my own?
Thanks,
MJC
On January 4th, 2006 at 6:15 pm
I got in this morning. Thanks Hark!!!
On January 4th, 2006 at 8:10 pm
mclark -
Pretty simple in OS 9 as well.
Open SimpleText and create a new document.
For the first line of the document, type:
67.19.100.82 http://www.broncosfreak.com
Then save the document to System Folder/Preferences and call it “Hosts”
Now, go to the Apple menu, Control Panels, TCP/IP
Now, change the mode to “Advanced” by going to the Edit menu and choosing “User” then clicking the radio button for “Advanced.”
Final step - you’ll now have an option for “Select Host File” - click that, then find your “Hosts” file in System Folder/Preferences.
Now, point a web browser to http://www.broncosfreak.com and it should work…

Dave:
I did everything you said. When I saved 67.19.100.82 http://www.broncosfreak.com in simple text it gave me the message that the ‘www.broncosfreak.com’ on the first line was illegal. So I tried it that way and also with the ‘www.broncosfreak.com’ on line 2. Was that my mistake.
Anyway, I followed your instructions — but it didn’t take somehow.
A note to Scar and others I’m missing since I can’t get to the BF homepage. Texas-USC: Vince Young again showed his unwillingness to lose. Is he coming out this year?
I don’t remember seeing so many great players on one field in a college game. Lendale White was spectacular. Leinert was solid — and played well enough to win. I thought Bush played tight, tried to do to much — he wasn’t his fluid self. Great lines on both teams, offensive for both, and Texas has a lot of talented beef on defense too.
Who went up in my Broncos draft expectation? Well, Young obviously. He’s ready. But also
Taitusi Lutui OG Southern Cal
Best guard I’ve seen in years. You can’t see that game last night and tell me he’s too big for the Broncos (read too slow). He was at the second level all night. I think we need this guy (even with his 365 pounds). What an athlete!
Spectacular game.

I tried to get our systems administrator to fix my problem. He wrote me the following note:
Mike,
The problem is not DNS, our university’s is one of the first to update changes. I checked the DNS, and it correctly identifies his IP address. The problem lies in his website. I apologize for not having a good solution for you.

Man it sucks that some of you guys can’t get on the site yet. Harkov mentioned Monday as being the day he thinks the site will be good to go.
mclark, last nites game was a thing of beauty! So much talent. So much drama. I loved it!
On January 5th, 2006 at 2:14 pm
No question. My wife and I never left the couch. She’s becoming an addict too. We watched the FSU/Penn State game on Tuesday; and then that classic last night.
A lot of heart in both games. And a lot of really physical football.
On January 5th, 2006 at 4:33 pm
mclark,
Thanks for posting that message…I’ll look into that…
Seems like it is taking way too long for a normal DNS change…
On January 5th, 2006 at 5:07 pm
Good luck. I’m in pain being cut off from the Bronco community of freaks.
On January 6th, 2006 at 8:01 am
mclark, i saw your message from your tech guy, gave me some clues…
looks like some dns servers were being blocked by the firewall on my machine, so that definitely could have caused a problem! hopefully 24-48 hours for it to propagate everywhere again, and things should be good…
*crosses fingers*
On January 6th, 2006 at 8:05 am
i had some friends who don’t goto the site (eagles fans..argh) do a lookup, and they were able to get in, so hopefully things are fixed. it’s just a matter of ‘regulars’ dns servers having cached the ‘bad’ ip address
On January 6th, 2006 at 9:13 am
I’m still locked out but look forward to getting in this weekend. Thanks for all your help, Harkov.
On January 6th, 2006 at 10:20 pm
The sweating and shivers have quieted down for me the last day or so. I’m feeling much better now. Plus, I have found time to have a serious conversation with my girlfriend.
(help me!!!)
On January 7th, 2006 at 10:25 pm
I seem to be having trouble adding the record to my computer. I am still running win98…
miss you guys. i’ve been on the mane and broncomania..wow those sites are bad.
On January 8th, 2006 at 12:16 am
Hang tight Derek…Harkov found a small issue with the server settings as well, but now the issues (hopefully) are worked out and DNS should be working soon…
On January 9th, 2006 at 7:57 am
still not getting on. any possibility it will be up and running today (monday)?
On January 9th, 2006 at 8:59 am
hopefully soon. I don’t think I can stand trolling the Mane much longer.
On January 9th, 2006 at 9:19 am
Still not working as of Monday 8:21 AM Pacific time.
On January 9th, 2006 at 11:23 am
I can get on from home but not from work.
On January 9th, 2006 at 11:46 am
Derek, I also have windiws 98 at work. I have ME Pro at home and don’t have a problem there. I usually get on at work so this sucks for me too. Must be something with Windows 98.
On January 9th, 2006 at 7:21 pm
A bunch of refugees just showed up. So hopefully everyone’s able to access the site!
On January 10th, 2006 at 9:07 am
Still can’t get in. I’m getting discouraged. This is a terrible season to be locked out.
On January 10th, 2006 at 3:43 pm
I borrowed a co-worker’s pc and tried to log on….and logged-on broncofreaks.com by mistake and had one SCREAMING porno site after another loading on to the screen. As soon as I clicked one closed, another three came exploding on to the screen — people were wandering behind me, around me, as naked woman with BIG SMILES came shooting in to my brain, reflecting on my glasses. So I pulled the plug. I’ll try later when everyone’s gone from work.
On January 13th, 2006 at 12:01 pm
Is the site down again????
